Minted 8:45 AM ET · Five stories. Human selected.

How the paper is made

Method

Five stories, no more.

Attention is finite. Each morning we publish the five stories that matter most — not everything that happened.

Chosen by a person.

A curator reads the day's news and decides what leads. Not an algorithm, not engagement metrics.

Summaries written by hand.

We read the original reporting and write each summary from scratch, in our own words. We never reproduce another outlet's text.

Written and edited by people.

The selection and the summaries are human work.

Sources always credited.

Every story names its publication and author and links to the original reporting. We're a front porch, not a destination.

Minted at 8:45.

One edition, once a day, at 8:45 AM Eastern — so the news can be a finite morning ritual, not an endless feed.

A note on the name.

Press & Penny nods to the penny press of the 1830s, when a day's news cost a single cent and reached everyone. Same idea: the important things, made easy to read, every morning.
