Analysis: The dismantling of the U.S. education system continues, with the Trump administration fighting tooth and nail to revoke Harvard’s federal funding. Nobody wins from this. The lasting impacts of hampered research will be felt not just throughout higher education, but throughout the entire country if not world.

Analysis: A recounting of how Justice Roberts is slowly building the executive branch to be all-powerful. Finally fulfilling a dream crafted up during the Regan administration, in which he was a part of. Also, a rebuttal on conversations around Roberts’ more liberal voting record compared to the other conservatives on the court. It’s not because he’s more open-minded – it’s because he’s tip-toeing towards his original goal of absolute executive power.

Analysis: Tom Barrack, from within Trump’s administration, seems to be providing key resistance to Israel’s attacks and influence in neighboring Syria and Lebanon. While he admits the U.S. holds no hard power over Israel in these matters (which is undoubtedly a policy choice), his words against Israel’s actions are refreshing coming out of the Trump administration.

Analysis: “What the federal government would have this Court believe — in the face of a mountain of evidence presented in this case — is that none of this is actually happening,” This quote is what will define the second Trump Administration. Trump and his cabinet officials are blatantly going against constitutional rights, and when called out on it, courts are using the time-honored defense of “Nuh Uh”. What a world we live in.

Analysis: With the recent Supreme Court ruling granting President Trump more power over federal agencies, one of the last guardrails has been eliminated: civil servants. In the first administration, pushback from civil servants held Trump back greatly in many different areas, from the Justice Department to Foreign Affairs. With those guardrails now gone, Trump will be able to act quicker than ever to enact his goals.

Analysis: There’s only one thing you can count on with Trump’s tariff policy: chaos. Even nations that bend the knee and give in to his demands aren’t spared the flip-flopping on and off and on again tariffs. Mexico, for example, has broadly given in to immigration and drug control demands, but yet another round of tariffs will be leveraged against them.

Analysis: Resentment is rising between those who are unfairly losing their research grants due to Trump’s D.E.I. cuts. Beyond being a blatantly idiotic policy that disadvantages the U.S. on a national stage, it’s also wreaking havoc for people who were raised in the very Republican territories that helped elect Trump. D.E.I. grants don’t just refer to people of color but also to people who have been through the foster care system, who are on food stamps, and whose parents have never been to college.

Analysis: In pursuit of achieving one campaign promise, 1 million deportations, Trump has lost sight of another – removing dangerous and criminal illegal aliens from the streets. ICE has been ordered to focus on the quantity, not the quality, of arrests and deportations. This has left (some) ICE officials feeling like their core mission is being jeopardized while also going against one of Trumps main campaign promises of decreasing serious crime.

Analysis: While a U.S. mining billionaire will always hold favorable views on tariffs, there is increasing logic (from my point of view) that tariffs can provide the national security we need in a climate of rising conflict. With that, Trump’s approach has been anything BUT helpful towards national security.
